Brindisi, a bridge to Greece and Middle East, was founded in the VIII century B.C..
Since ancient times, it was an important center of economic and cultural exchanges between Italians, Greeks and people from Asia Minor.
Magnificent and beautifol during the Roman Empire, become, in the first centuries of this millenium, a strategic town ander the military point of view.
At the end of the XIX century, its position as natural mort made it safe European terminal for goods and passengers for Peninsular and Oriental Ltd of London, the legendary "Luggage to India " - concessionary company of postal services from England to Egypt, India, China and Australia, throgh the European land bridge.

In the last few years, Brindisi, thanks to the building of the outer breakwater, has devoloped its port areas, creating new docks and new space ashore to be used for goods and passengers, as well asfor petrochemical and energy industrial activities.
