Brindisi Port Informer


Who we are: Port Informer – assisting with Harbour Master and Port Authority- carries out a service of information, coordination and promotion of the Port activities, offerings as private exercise that it offers public services in its capacity as useful point of reference to the community; it works h.24, every days of the year.

Location: The Port Informer signal station, as help service to navigation, is located on the upper flor of Alfonsino Castle, in the centre of the port, on 50 m to the sea level. From that position the roads, port entrance and all docks are perfectly clear.

Instruments: The Port Information station is equipped with a radio apparatus (WHF); optical instruments, meteorological station, a radar 6/10 kw (in installation phase), movement ship register, two telephonic lines and one fax.

Data transmission: Port Informer refreshes , in real time, the e-system of management and control of the shipping in the port, about the time of arrival/ enter/berthing or time of unberthing/exit/start to sea passage, to give a clear the effective situation of the port.

Work: the service is failed-safe by 5 operators, to 24 hours, every days of the year.

Tasks/Services: Brindisi Port Informer carry out a service of “sight”, identification and announcement of the arrival hour, of sailing and shifting of the merchant ships, Port Informer also carry out a services of assistant and signalling to the roadster, let alone the service of the commercial communications among ships and agencies and users concerned to shippings.

Port Informer station listens to the radio h 24 (to 24 hours) on the help frequency 156.8 Mhz ( channel 16 VHF), on the frequency 156.550 Mhz (work channel 11 VHF). The radio contact opens to the ships using the logogram “Brindisi Port Informer”.


In addiction the Port Informer, supplies, the following information:

  • orders and measures issued by the Brindisi Harbour Master or by the Port Authority, about the (matters) subjects of the port activities;
  • local meteorological-marine conditions thanks official weather bulletin;
  • information about the ship’s agent and cargo’s ship.

The following information isn’t provided, because it’s an exclusive competence of Harbour Master, of Pilot Corporation:

  • general information about the Port and its sea bottom;
  • technical information about the ship manoeuvre;
  • disposable pilot;
  • anchorage point;

The Port Informer activity is a Public utility service because its work is impersonal and Super Partes.
